About Imago Dei

A note from our founder, Dr. Katherine Welch

Imago Dei means “Image of God." At Imago Dei Restorative Health we believe that you were created in the image of God and we strive to restore the state of being that God intended for us. We live in a broken world with broken bodies, but were created with remarkable abilities to recover and heal.

I founded Imago Dei Restorative Health to take a holistic approach to understand the specific biological, psychological, environmental, and spiritual components of your health. In the Direct Primary Care (DPC) model of care I am able to take the time to truly discover your history, ask clarifying questions to uncover root causes, and explore various options for care. My favorite part of having a DPC practice is the freedom to work directly for my patients as opposed to a corporation. This allows me to find the best path for your journey to health.

The term doctor stems from the latin word "docere" which means, "to teach" and I love to teach people about what is going on in their bodies and equip them to live healthier lives. There are no questions or ideas that are too bizarre or unacceptable. To be a good teacher one has to be a good listener and I learn so much from my patients! There are a lot of opinions about the causes and treatments of illness and it’s important that people have the freedom to explore ideas and solutions with their physician. I don’t promise to have all the answers, but I do promise to help find them. I will work with you to make informed decisions regarding your health.

Health is not just the absence of disease, the goal is to thrive. I hope that you will allow me to participate in your wellness journey.

Dr. Katherine Welch

Physician, Pediatrician

Dr. Katherine Welch is a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine and completed her Pediatric internship and residency at University of Alabama-Birmingham. Immediately after completing her residency in 2000, she served in medical missions in Thailand, then in China. Dr. Welch founded Relentless in 2011 to focus her work at the intersection of health and human trafficking building the capacity of survivor assistance programs, and equipping medical peers, as well as providing direct clinical care to survivors. After 19 years in Asia and 3 years in Europe, she relocated to Indianapolis in 2022. She continues her anti-trafficking work to develop educational tools to equip health care professionals as well as local survivor assistance programs.

Dr. Katherine also serves in other unique ways:

Although Dr. Katherine is a pediatrician by training, she enjoys seeing “kids of all ages” and her pediatric training, as well as her years on the mission field, serve her well in thinking through medical issues and solving clinical problems.

In her free-time, Dr. Katherine enjoys training for and running ultra marathons. In 2019, she was the 1st place female in the Indiana Trail 100, finishing 100 miles in 19 hours and 42 minutes. She was also the outright winner of the 2023 Glacial Esker 24 hour race, out-distancing all men and women in the effort.

Sarah Dobbins

Office Assistant

Sarah helps with the management of the practice on a part time basis. She'll be around on Fridays, and possibly more often in the future.

In her own words: "This is a special opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to work for Dr. Katherine and meeting all of you. Some facts about me:  I’ve been married to my wonderful husband for 20 years.  I am a mother of two beautiful daughters who are 14 and 19.  Sharing the good news of Christ and serving others in God’s love is very important to me."
