Acetaminophen, Leucovorin, & Autism, OH MY!

ree

Big news and loads of questions about the recent announcement by President Trump, Secretary Kennedy, and others regarding the safety of acetaminophen and the use of leucovorin. Although this is weeks old, the talk and speculation continues. While I would never take health advice from any president (and I would not automatically do the opposite), I'm glad for the attention it is bringing, because it is platforming an issue that has been previously relegated to the corners of medicine and gets a lot more people aware and discussing it. What most people don't realize is that the "news" about these drugs has been known in medical science for quite some time. Finally, the information is making it to the mainstream.

Unfortunately, people have been getting hung up on the messenger and not the message. We have a problem with autism, and other chronic conditions and there is a lot more we can know about how to prevent as well as treat these conditions if we are open to truth and medical freedom in practice as well as research. My own mind has been blown by all the things I'm learning in MAPS and the psychiatry fellowship.

So, what's my take? Acetaminophen, in conjunction with a hyper-inflammatory state such as when children (especially babies) have an illness or get a vaccine, negatively impacts their detoxification which can lead to significant disability. It is not THE cause, but caution should be heeded. Leucovorin (and other forms of methylfolate) can have a profound impact on addressing one part of a complex system that has gone awry in children with autism. It is not a magic bullet.

Because other physicians and researchers can explain these concepts better than I can, I will post several videos and podcasts of people who I know and trust and learn from. The first is an excellent podcast with Dr. Kurt Woeller about the approach to functional medicine in general but at about 26:50 he discusses folate and at 56:00 he discussed acetaminophen. In this MAPS video, Dr. William Parker discusses the risk of acetaminophen in the peri-partum period. You will also be interested in the documentary Inconvenient Truth about a huge vax/un-vaxxed study that was suppressed because the result were irrefutable and, well, inconvenient to the vaccine-industrial complex!

Takeaways - do your research and homework, stay sharp, ask questions! And at least we all know how to spell acetaminophen now!
